Living a blissful life teaches me to become a more selfless and generous individual, not only to those that I love but also to those that are in need. Therefore, much as I always enjoy going to events that have good programs, I will enjoy them even more if I know my money will be donated to charity.
Today, my friends and I went to a fundraising event called Charity Ball, which was hosted by Multicultural Student Association (MSA). MSA is one of the clubs we have at Keuka College. Like our Keuka College International Club (KCIC), MSA also strives to celebrate diversity but with a focus on domestic diversity, while KCIC’s focus is on a larger scale, global diversity.
This year, all the proceeds of their event went directly to Camp Good Days, an organization that provides service for children with cancer, children who have a parent or sibling with cancer and/or children who have lost a parent or sibling to cancer. The organization also offers programs for women and men who have or have had cancer and for children affected by sickle cell anemia.
The idea of this event was to raise money for Camp Good Days by organizing a semi-formal event right on campus for Keuka College students to come and have a good time. Each student could pay $10 for the ticket, which included both dinner and dance, or $2 for just the dance portion.
Dr. James Blackburn, or Dean B. is what we often call him, is one of the Vice Presidents at Keuka College. Although he’s retiring at the end of this year, Dean B. is loved and respected by not only students but also the school’s faculty and staff. His responsibility at Keuka College is supervising student development and leading the Division of Student Affairs that includes all aspects of student life and activities. Dean B. and his friends also came to the event today and they were all very happy to donate money to Camp Good Days!
Besides diner, they also arranged a photobooth for us to take pictures with fun accessaries!
At around 8:30 PM, only a few students started to dance…
…but then, everyone suddenly joined together in dancing to The Cupid Shuffle song!Thank you MSA for hosting such a great event. I’m sure you guys will still have great turnout in the future years!
