Asian Market & Eastview Mall – YES Please!

One of the best things to do after a week of dedication to schoolwork is, probably, to have a ‘sweet escape’ from campus! Today was a shopping day. We went to Asian market to buy food and stopped at Eastview Mall in Rochester on the way back; they are both just about an hour drive from Keuka College… I hear you, it must be a freaking long distance in Vietnam! Well, for some reason, driving in upstate New York is actually not that tiring… perhaps because traffic is not as crazy here. I didn’t take any picture of the Asian market because I spent too much time wandering inside thinking of what food I should get haha *shame on me*.  But, the truth is, we’ve never walked out of this market without caring less than two full bags for each person! There were so many items on my list: catfish (cá trê), meat/fish balls (thịt/cá viên) – there are dozens types (!), vegetables (rau muống, rau lang) ,  etc. but eventually I ended up with buying a number of unlisted items such as: fried shallots (hành phi), minced lemongrass (sả băm), Pho/vermicelli seasonings (gia vị phở/bún các loại), and many more. Admittedly, I’m not only a fan of snacking but also a big fan of my friends’ homemade Vietnamese food! YUM!

After we were done at the Asian market, we headed out for lunch at Phở Việt, a Vietnamese restaurant nearby that offers a great menu of Vietnamese food.

Phở Việt is our favorite destination for Vietnamese food. The restaurant is clean and the staff are quite friendly. What is even cooler about this restaurant is that they are all Vietnamese, and of course, ordering Vietnamese food in Vietnamese makes things so much easier!

I ordered my 'special' Pho (Phở đặc biệt). Admittedly, I can't be more satisfied with how big the Pho bowl is! It's not just big, it's also yummy as hell!

For those that are fond of hot pot and Chinese food, there’s another place that we often go to just nearby, called Yummy Garden. Additionally, there are many other places to dine in or take away such as Japanese restaurant, Korean restaurant or European restaurant, and of course, American restaurant as well! Here are some pictures we took last time at Yummy Garden <3.

Will and Alex were with us for the whole day! They are our good American friends (Alex is Chinese-American), and both of them are very friendly. Additionally, Jim and Dawn, our drivers of the day – the true heroes, and Sony, our current international students supervisor, also joined us in the trip. After pleasing our tummy, we headed to Eastview to buy some goodies before going back to the campus. I really didn’t realize how time flew until opening my blog and starting to write this post… But it was a quite productive day still! 😀
